Before getting his real estate license, Gary was in radio for several years. Working in the Central Texas radio market as “Gary Quinn”, he had stints at KCKR-FM (95.7 Kicker in Waco) from 1995 – 2000 then moved to KUSJ-FM (US105 in Temple-Killeen) in 2000 to become Assistant Program Director, Afternoon Drive DJ, and Music Director. Before entering the Central Texas radio scene, Gary worked in various other markets – from Greenville, TX to Paris, TX to Niagara Falls, NY.
Gary got his license in 2003 and at the end of 2004 he decided to hang up his headphones and pursue a career in real estate full-time.
On his last day on the air at KUSJ, Gary’s co-workers gave him a newspaper article that was authored by his wife, Connie. It was a fun send-off and it chronicles his rise to one step above carnival barker. You can read it here: DJ Vanishes from Airwaves
After he left radio for real estate, Gary still “kept his hands dirty” in the radio business from time to time. He had a Saturday show on (then) Lonestar 94.5 FM in Waco. After that station flipped from country to a talk radio format, he and another real estate agent had a Saturday show title “Waco Unplugged”. That show covered real estate and Waco in general.
“Radio is actually more than just being a goofball during your airshift. There’s a lot you learn in the marketing/branding/advertising side of things. From writing copy to pre and post-production of commercials, demographic study, analyzing ratings, statistical breakdowns of your audience, how to execute promotions, etc… It’s an invaluable experience where you can learn the tricks of the trade in advertising and marketing. I think that experience directly benefits my clients.”
Gary specializes in executive and luxury homes from the buyer and seller side. Another of his specialities has been helping people relocate to Waco.
“I tend to specialize in certain areas and types of homes and when I have a buyer that may be looking for a home in a price range or area in which I don’t normally focus, I don’t feel that I can exceed their expectations. That buyer may be looking in areas of Central Texas where I don’t consider myself an expert. Fortunately, I work with a group of agents that do have the expertise and knowledge to fulfill that buyer’s or seller’s needs – and beyond.”
Gary is very proficient in the latest technologies. From mobile marketing, communication, websites to computers and more. He’s built personal computers, designed websites and understands that being an expert in those fields helps lead the way to providing cutting edge service to his clients in the 21st century.
